Broadband Expansion
Because Reid Consulting Group is based in Appalachian Ohio, we see firsthand the effects of the digital divide. From the company’s beginnings, we have focused heavily on broadband expansion because we recognize broadband’s importance to the future of rural America. We worked to build numerous public-private coalitions to leverage federal support for broadband expansion to ensure that residents of rural areas will enjoy the same opportunities and advantages as their urban counterparts. To date, we have secured over $170 million for our clients from three Federal agencies to extend broadband infrastructure:
- $66 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration Broadband Technology Opportunities Program on behalf of Horizon Telcom for Connecting Appalachian Ohio, a 34-county project in southern and eastern Ohio
- $62 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration Broadband Technology Opportunities Program on behalf of the Illinois Broadband Opportunity Partnership for the Illinois Century Network, a 55-county project in rural Illinois
- $29 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration Broadband Technology Opportunities Program on behalf of Com Net, Inc., for the GigE Plus Availability Coalition, a 28-county project in western Ohio
- $16 million from the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Health Care Pilot Program on behalf of the Adena Health System for the Southern Ohio Health Care Network, a 13-county project in southern Ohio
- $670,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Community Connect program on behalf of Horizon Telcom for the Darbyville Community Technology Project, a one-county project in central Ohio
Green Initiatives
Environmental issues are an important priority for the team at Reid Consulting Group. We take nearly every opportunity to ensure that our activities leave a minimal environmental footprint, with the intention of reducing waste and inspiring others to follow in our footsteps. Some examples of our green initiatives include:
- We utilize various e-formats (PDF, .doc, etc.) to reduce the amount of paper we use.
- When printing is necessary, we use 100% recycled paper.
- We are able to reduce travel time by using modern synchronous and asynchronous collaboration tools such as video conferencing and e-mail.
- Our office uses energy-efficient fluorescent lighting as well as skylights and large windows that maximize the benefit of natural daylight.
