Founded in 1895 as the Home Telephone Company, Horizon Telcom is a rural, independent telephone company located in the heart of Appalachian Ohio. The innovative broadband provider is headquartered in Chillicothe and is dedicated to serving rural Ohio.
Connecting Appalachian Ohio – Middle Mile Consortium
Formed and led the Connecting Appalachia initiative with the support of key regional leadership representing Congress, the Governor’s Office, county governments, health care, K-12 and higher education. Won $66 million in funding from the NTIA Broadband Technology and Opportunities Program to support the $95 million, 2,000-mile fiber-optic broadband project. The project will deliver world-class broadband to more than 600 community anchor institutions across 34 southern and eastern Ohio counties. Conducted network engineering, mapping and procurement of equipment and services.
IT Assessment
Conducted a complete assessment of company’s information technology operations. Created an architecture and plan for systematically upgrading and integrating all front-office and back-office operations.
Service Catalog
Worked with sales and engineering to define the key business fiber services to be offered on the newly expanded network. Service definitions included service-level details and technical performance specifications. Created sales materials to support the rollout.
Marketing and Communications Plan
Created a comprehensive marketing and communications plan to establish brand identity, build company and product awareness in expanded markets, offer a vertical market engagement strategy and support the field sales team with GIS marketing tools.
County Fiber Routing Consultations
Established county-based advisory committees of business representatives and community leaders to review existing routing plans for the future fiber network. Utilized these forums to establish brand and product awareness as well as optimize capital expenditures.
Upper Arlington Request for Information (RFI)
Developed response to RFP from the City of Upper Arlington, Ohio, seeking a municipal fiber network to improve broadband services for schools, government and public safety, as well as to promote economic development.
Darbyville Community Connect Program
Engaged community leaders to support broadband deployment, economic development and educational advancement in the village of Darbyville in rural Pickaway County, Ohio. Won $670,000 from the USDA Community Connect Program to support the $1.1 million project. Services included fiber-to-the-home in a town previously lacking any form of broadband. Established a community technology center for free public access, support for entrepreneurship, K-12 tutoring and degree completion programs.
